Computer Science at the Center of the Universe

28 May, 2009 (00:23) | General | By: Bryce Boe

I was just watching the keynote for Google I/O in which Google’s CEO, Eric Schmidt said, “I’m one of these people who believes Computer Science is at the center of the Universe.” I think this is one of my new favorite quotes. Quote at 4:34 in the video below.

It’s very exciting to read about the [...]

Random Lines from a File

23 March, 2009 (01:36) | General | By: Bryce Boe

The following is my python implementation of choosing N random lines with equal probability from a file. This implementation is both memory and time efficient unlike other solutions. This problem was originally brought to my attention after a friend was asked a similar problem at a Google interview. Additionally a few weeks ago I was [...]

Bye Bye Google: The End of a Great Summer

16 November, 2008 (12:15) | General | By: Bryce Boe

Damn it’s been over 8 weeks since I last wrote, and how I’ve missed it. As you may have guessed I’ve been terribly busy since my last post, especially in the most recent weeks. Since there is too much information for a single post, I’ll split up the last 8 weeks into a few segments [...]

This evening I went to dinner at the American Table cafe with Steve. Tonight’s selection was amazing! I had:

A bit of grilled wild boar bratwurst with sauerkraut, caramelized onions, mushrooms, shoestring celery root, turnips, brandy, Guinness
A bit of pacific almandine tilapia with crunchy almonds, lemon teriyaki and diced ginger Shrimp
A bit of smoked salmon alfredo [...]

Good Eatings: Snack Time

17 September, 2008 (17:01) | General | By: Bryce Boe

Around three a few of us headed over to the hub for coffee, and as usual there is a different treat of the day. Today my snack time consisted of:

A few profiteroles
An iced mocha special made from the friendly barista
A little piece of chocolaty goodness
About 10 minutes ago Travis and I had a shot of [...]

Good Eatings: Lunch

17 September, 2008 (13:57) | General | By: Bryce Boe

Today I had lunch at Google’s newest Cafe, Big Table. I headed there at noon and met up with some Santa Barbara Googlers. I didn’t eat that much since breakfast held me over quite well.

2 Falafel patties(?) with Tahini and Yogurt Cucumber Mint Sauce
Caesar Salad with Caper Anchovy Dressing
4 pieces of Tuna Poke Hand Roll
Plum [...]

Good Eatings: Breakfast

17 September, 2008 (10:22) | General | By: Bryce Boe

I’ve been meaning to do this at least once all summer.
I arrived at Cafe Moma for breakfast at approximately 9:15 and I filled my plate with the following:

2 Pancakes which I put a very light amount of raspberry syrup on
A piece of Sourdough French Toast, with a little maple syrup
A scoop of Roasted Chicken and [...]

Google Week 12: One More!

16 September, 2008 (00:55) | General | By: Bryce Boe

My last week at Google is finally here. It seems like just yesterday I was driving up to the Bay Area in the Porsche loaded to the roof with my stuff. Oh it’s been a great summer, but it’s not over yet!
Week 12 gave me the opportunity to complete more of my project and even [...]

Google: Weeks 10 and 11

7 September, 2008 (22:49) | General | By: Bryce Boe

First I’d like to mention the obvious; I sold the Porsche this morning. Hmm ok maybe that’s not the obvious. Anyway my 944 of 6 years is finally gone, and it’s sad. Maybe someday when I have money to play with and a child who is into cars I’ll get another 944. Onto the obvious [...]

My Summer Secret: Google Chrome

1 September, 2008 (17:09) | General | By: Bryce Boe

Two weeks into my Google Internship I, along with many other Googlers, became a holder of one very secret piece of information: Google Chrome. I’ve been dying to tell people about it all summer, fortunately I know better than to leak confidential information. However I no longer have to worry as Google Chrome was publicly [...]
